The best holiday rental I have ever experienced

Two friends and I spent a very happy three days at the Cider Mill in early October. The garden was so beautiful and peaceful and we loved sitting out in the sun. The house itself is comfortable and beautifully decorated. It has everything you could possibly need and is really generously stocked. It is probably the best holiday rental I have ever experienced. Anna is really quick and responsive to any queries and sends lots of helpful advice about the area.

Lovely accommodation surrounded by tranquil, rose- filled garden

The Cider Mill was a real find as a venue suitable for my elderly parents with limited mobility, but also offering great walks for me and my dog. Spacious and tastefully decorated , thoughtfully equipped, great location but best of all, surrounded by a lovely garden where we could simply sit and enjoy the tranquility, amongst the roses.

Thoroughly recommend

The Cider Mill is a beautiful cottage, amazingly fitted out with all you could possibly need. Three extremely comfortable beds with en-suites. The garden is very pretty plus the addition of a small field for the dogs to use. Property fully enclosed too, which is a bonus.

Monnington on Wye is a quaint hamlet, lots of walks from the door, plus many further afield. Oak Church Farm Shop is a short drive away, cakes are amazing and lots of vegetables/meat if eating in.

We visited Hay on Wye, which was lovely, albeit drizzly! We also did lots of longer walks further afield, also visited Woebley with its pretty black and white houses. We had a fabulous break, played lots of board games in the evening, which were supplied.

Quintessential English Country Garden close to the River Wye

We really enjoyed our Easter weekend staying at the Cider Milll. We chose the property based on the three main factors; the open bright open living space, enclosed garden (2 dogs) and location (easy to drive around but also walks from the front door) we were not disappointed. A really quaint, peaceful (amazing bird song each morning!), well equipped, and nicely designed place to stay. The recommendations for local walks and options for eating out were great!

Good character property in a quiet, peaceful setting. Very well positioned for Hay on Wye and Hereford , being midway between the two. High quality interior. All ensuite accommodation with quality fittings. Spacious layout of kitchen/dining/lounge area. Plenty of outside space including well maintained cottage garden. Plenty of parking space. Very comfortable beds, and pillows and gorgeous bed linen. Very comfortable settees in the lounge area. Well insulated – cosily warm on cold days. Great feature is the very spacious porch for hanging coats, removing boots, etc

We stayed here with our children and their partners and our dog. We had a fantastic time and will be going back soon we hope. Plenty of parking and facilities. The house is very well stocked and was beautifully cleaned on our arrival. The gardens are well kept, the gardener clearly is doing a great job too. Communication with the owner is very good and load of info is available for local and days out.

Wonderful

We have had a extraordinary week here. The weather has been hot, in Sept. So we have had breakfast and dinner outside. The garden is lovely and peaceful. We were without transport for a couple of days and the neighbours were very kind and helpful. The house is incredibly well thought out and equipped. As for the farm shop up the road…never found a better one and we have tried.

Cottage Details

The Cider Mill is a beautiful stone, single-storey holiday cottage all on one level. Its idyllic rural setting, along with the beautiful garden makes it a favourite for family holidays and also weekends away with friends.

Spacious living area

You enter The Cider Mill through a timber framed porch (which doubles up as a boot room) into the hall. This leads into a huge open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. With four large windows that overlook the garden and glazed French doors that open onto the terrace, the light pours in. Plus it has oak trusses and a cathedral ceiling, which create a wonderful feeling of openness and warmth. It is simply the perfect space to spend quality time together.

You’ll find the kitchen area well-equipped with all the crockery and cooking utensils you’ll need during your self-catering holiday. After you’ve cooked a tasty meal or prepared some snack, you can gather around the gorgeous elm table (all the way from India). There’s ample dining space for all six guests.

The sitting area wraps around the faux woodburner. With two cosy sofas to snuggle up on, you could spend winter evenings watching a movie together on the Smart TV. Or maybe sit and plan your next day of exploring the Wye Valley over a glass of your favourite tipple. There’s super-fast fibre WiFi throughout as well, so you can stay connected to the outside world during your holiday. That’s if you want to!

Rest and relax

The Cider Mill has three beautiful ensuite bedrooms. All of them have super-king size zip and link beds that can be made into twins on request.

  • Tearose has a west-facing window that looks down over the Wye Valley. The ensuite bathroom has a bath, separate shower, WC and wash basin.
  • Finch Barley has an east-facing window. It has ensuite shower room with a WC and wash basin.
  • Summer Bough leads from the sitting room. It is south-facing and overlooks the pretty garden. TIt has an ensuite bathroom with a sep[arate shower,WC and wash basin.

A good night’s sleep is encouraged here, so all of the beds are high quality and are made up with sumptuous 400 count Egyptian cotton linen. Soft, fluffy bathroom towels are provided too.

Outside living

The Cider Mill is set in a picturesque, mature garden which is enclosed. Ideal if you have young children or you’re bringing your dog with you (but please note we cannot guarantee it is fully secure). Its large, south-facing paved terrace has plenty of comfortable garden furniture and a webber BBQ. So you can sit outside and enjoy your morning tea or coffee as you listen to the birds singing. Enjoy a game of badminton in the afternoons when you return from your adventures; then spend summer evenings under the stars dining al fresco with your friends and family. It’s what memories are made of!

Parking and bike storage

A timber framed building is behind the property. It has a carport for one car, plus a lock up laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and an extra fridge.

Monnington House and Cottages. Walks straight from the door of The Cider Mill

Location

The Cider Mill is located on the edge of a family farm and small hamlet. It is surrounded by acres of cider orchards and reached down a tree-lined drive of young pear trees on a tranquil No Through Road. Enjoy the views across a paddock that wraps itself around The Cider Mill and beyond over rural farmland.

There are numerous walking trails straight from the door including the Wye Valley Walk. Guests often walk to the Red Lion at Bredwardine. Another favourite is the Garden Café at Brobury House and Gardens which is a beautiful walk; it takes about an hour and some of the route goers beside the Wye. Oakchurch Farm Shop is a fabulous place to stock up on goodies and it’s only 1.8 miles from The Cider Mill.

The River Wye is a 10 minute walk away. Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy canoeing, paddle-boarding and other activities. Plus fishing is available nearby as well as 5 golf courses: Burghill Valley, Kington, Leominster, Sapey and The Herefordshire.  A visit to Brobury Beach near Bredwardine Bridge where the River Wye is accessible is always pleasurable.

There are lots of other leisure opportunities and outdoor activities to enjoy in the local area.
